By Phoenix of Elder Mountain – (All articles are written by Phoenix from her experiences of a forty year initiations of wrathful dismemberment, permission is needed to share). As a folk healer and shaman, these darkest asteroids are specifically shared under the narrative of the useful emotional and soul languages of mythology and archetypes. All of us, lifetime after lifetime, have our own complete shadow which is rarely seen in its entirety except for the wrathful dismemberment lifetime of a shaman.
The rest of us remain unconscious as adults just how deep our karma goes and believe me when I say this is the greatest blessing. I share this article because after doing consultations in Astrology along side the Asteroids since the 1990s, and my own devastating and destructive life as a shaman apprentice my whole life, the asteroids themselves have a potent energy of symbology, revealing the health and lack of, aspects when they conjunct our inner planets, nodes or 8th and 12th houses.
Through my client work, they have shown me a greater depth of the real personal blind spots and how our stories mirror suffering. Some suffer less and others more in life, and only when the doors and mystical gates of purification open do we suffer the worst. I am not just an astrologer, but I am a healer first and foremost, and I use astrology as a symbolic tool to help map the greater self and help assist the infinite pieces of our lives.
Where our weaknesses express themselves and how we build or rebuild our strength is as unique journey that coincides with the path of destruction. Asteroids are very accurate as they add a subtle light to unconscious blindness. All the asteroids have both a negative and a positive context, but some have a more negative and karmic expression and those are the ones I listed here.
When we work with any ancient esoteric, mythological, oracular, shamanic, folk lore or Jungian teachings, we break down the self and the world into our elemental self: Earth, Air, Water, Fire (and the 5th element metal in Chinese tradition, which is ether). The four essential ingredients are the four different states of matter and energy:
Earth as solid and our physical life;
Water as liquid and our emotional life;
Wind (air) as gas and our mental life; and
Fire as transformative energy (plasma), our death and rebirth life.
Plasma is a symbol for fire and there are many fire goddesses and gods to chose from when working with asteroids. Fire just like plasma changes matter from one state to another. In astrology, elements are used to describe symbolically the general nature of a person, situation or event and also the changes we go through. Nobody can be described by just one element, because we are influenced by our many elements.
I know those who have no “earth” in their chart certainly can have earthy asteroids and are very capable of change and growth. Change is always the medicine of healthy behavioral changes and modifications – which we practice and apply to overcome our sickness and pain and even karmic pain (for some) and this leads to…
There are asteroid equivalents to youth, adult and elder when we speak about mythology. The “maiden aspects” or “youth aspects” (under thirty years old) have many gods and goddesses represented. As we get older in our thirties and forties we are asked by life to mature through difficult life experiences. Once we enter adult, the maiden then becomes our own inner child aspect under the next stages of the “mother aspect” and mothers and fathers who have children. The adult years are the all creative Mother and the most powerful.
Last is the “grandmother aspect” who holds wisdom, power and leadership. Each stage of Maiden, Mother and Grandmother have their own Goddess (asteroids). Grandmother is the Dark Goddess and the Night Goddesses (or Star Goddesses as they are called), like Sehkmet, Durga, Neith, Lilith, Baba Yaga, Medusa or Hecate. They were reduced to maiden or mother goddesses through patriarchal destruction but now grandmothers on earth from here forth reclaim their powers, death, destruction, empowerment, rulership and autumn and winter.
So here we go…
◊ (588) ACHILLES
The asteroid Achilles represents the fallen hero, like the Vietnam or Iraq vet who realizes war is about killing and a moral sin. His mother was the immortal Nereid Thetis, and his father, the mortal Peleus, who was the king of the Myrmidons. Achilles’ most notable feat during the Trojan War was the slaying of the Trojan hero Hector outside the gates of Troy. We work with this asteroid as the emotionally fallen hero, the “woundedness in our foundation” since its his feet which haunted him. We cannot walk forward in life or even walk without our feet, so this asteroid represents where we are wounded physically, emotionally, mentally, in our soul or our true non human element of nature (spirit) and we must bear the burdens this lifetime until we begin to accept.
◊ (239) ADRASTAEIA
“Who does not flee”; “the inescapable one”. Asteroid Adrastaeia can show those who do not leave abusive situations, or, can show moments and traumas where we were unable to escape, as in the case of abusive childhoods. This asteroid can also talk about areas of wounding we cannot escape, such as alcoholism or drug abuse.
◊ (1912) ANUBIS
Anubis is named after the jackal-headed Egyptian God of the Dead. There are three types of dogs of the underworld – 1. The Guardians like Anubis who protect the opening and keep the demons in and you out and 2. The Hell Hounds of your own karmic past and they come to hunt you and destroy you. 2a Cerberus, the two headed dog, and 2b Geryon who is the “three-headed” dog. As a shaman I have had to deal with this as an exorcist, and the more heads, the darker and older the demonic soul of a living human being, three headed would be the worst in the “animism soul” sense, rather than human soul. Cat and Dog animism is the most common of earth and the lowest animism souls a human can have.
Anubis is the positive and if strongly placed in your chart, it means that death as a theme or at least things tend to end quickly or die at the lightest end of the symbol’s meaning. For the true initiate its a life time of death and loss, but for a greater spiritual reason than say Cererus which is demonic. Anubis is not the demonic, its the intiation of being able to deal with the dark, not become it… the two and three headed dogs are the dark itself in shamanic terms.
For the average person, death is the focus or a recurring theme in the individual’s life in regards to this asteroid, which is like those born in a balsamic moon phase, so check which moon phase you were born at to give you more insight.
◊ (2876) AESCHYLUS
Aeschylus was a famous playwright in ancient Greece who was called the “Father of Tragedy” and became an initiate of the local mystery religion of the goddess Demeter. As a young man he worked in the vineyards and had a dream he was visited by the god Dionysus, he devoted his life to the newly developed art of tragedy from the destruction of the Goddess by the Dionysus Cult. As an archetype it rules addiction to alcohol or drugs and the tragedy this brings to the bearer and the family. It also shows the type of man who is older who gives disrespectful attention to young girls and maidens living off their light. It is the fool who eventually is caught in his own trap.
◊ (849) ARA, ARAI
The Ara, Arai or Arae are female spirits (daimones) of Curses who are summoned forth from the underworld to attack those who have not followed natures laws. They were largely indistinguishable from the Erinyes. Asteroid Ara would be considered an affliction within a natal chart and those who are cursed in past lives or this lifetime would show were that curse is effected in the chart. Hire a shaman who is a demon slayer and curse breaker to remove any darkness that comes out of the blue. Curses come fast, and that is how you know that they are a curse, everything was fine, and then went bad immediately.
◊ (407) ARACHNE
Weaving, woven items, weaving things together, jealousy of God-given talents, talents that lead to pain or persecution, arrogance, boastfulness. Arachne is an incredibly talented weaver and compared herself to the Gods (and actually, said she is better than them!). She unknowingly challenged a disguised Athena, Goddess of Weaving, to a weaving duel. In the end, Arachne who made Athena angry, punished her and turned her into a spider.
◊ (5) ASTRAEA
Staying until the bitter end. While this may show someone with perseverance, the asteroid Astraea more often indicates someone who stays in a bad job / relationship/friendship far too long or doesn’t know when to let go.
◊ (111) ATE
Goddess of blind folly, rashness, infatuation, and mischief. Ate is said to be behind the curse that started the Trojan War. She is a daughter of Eris, and according to Homer of Zeus, was an ancient Greek divinity, who led both gods and men to rash and inconsiderate actions and to suffering. She once even induced Zeus, at the birth of Heracles, to take an oath by which Hera was afterwards enabled to give to Eurystheus the power which had been destined for Heracles.
When Zeus discovered his rashness, he hurled Ate from Olympus and banished her for ever from the abodes of the gods. In the tragic writers Ate eventually overcoming her punishment, appears in a different light: she avenges evil deeds and inflicts just punishments upon offenders and their posterity. For the warrior type of woman, this is not a bad placement and builds courage and strength for the future older adult life. For the more feminine woman who fears her masculine side, this can be her downfall until she takes up the sword and stops relying on others to protect or save her.
◊ (1198) ATLANTIS
Related to the mythical, lost kingdom of Atlantis that sunk when it turned dark and shadowy. The asteroid Atlantis can also talk about excessive pride or hubris that leads to its downfall, as well as extinction and imminent doom.
◊ (1489) ATTILA
Named after Attila the Hun, the killing barbaric warrior. When afflicted, this asteroid can indicate a kind of ruthless, unconscious darkness all-or-nothing brutality to winning or victory which creates much karma. It also is the asteroid of a death wish to escape punishments for bad or evil deeds and an ego that needs to be destroyed once and for all.
◊ (2063) BACCHUS and (3671) DIONYSUS
Bacchus and Dionysus is the story of those who used their powers of corruption to build the patriarch at the expense of woman and take her power. So in an symbolic form, its men who use women or the masagenistic older man. They use their powers of corruption focused against the mothers and grandmothers who had equality, power and leadership and to devise a plan to destroy the Mystery Circle, the Great Circle of woman. In modern times it would be like almost all men after the 50s who made women’s lives hell who were trying to work in the world.
Bacchus and Dionysus in their real acts of diplorables, focused on luring the maidens away from the Mothers and Grandmothers of ancient times, with sex and drugs/alcohol. Once they were successful, the Apollo cults took over the women’s temples and priestesses were replaced by priests, the money went to the government, and the prophet women (oracles) were used to serve politicians and the military.
Then as a symbol, it would be the man who looks out only for himself while appeasing women, or is a womanizer, or only goes for younger women the older he gets. In Greek mythology, Erigone was a young woman whose father, Icarus, graciously entertained the god Dionysus. Dionysus introduced Icarus and his friends to a new beverage, wine. Ill-fated Icarus was murdered by his hung-over compatriots the next morning when they thought they had been poisoned. Erigone discovered Icarus’ body. She was so distraught that she committed suicide. Family destruction from alcoholism and addiction is the main feature of Bacchus and Dionysus.
This asteroid also shows strong emotional commitments to loved ones alongside family tragedy. Self-destructive urges, misogynistic behaviors, drug addiction, perverse rituals, insanity and mental illness, shadow sides of men and their sexual power, schizophrenia, drug rape, intoxicants in excess, false visions and revelations and the dark side of drug ecstatic trance. Sobriety and Drug Treatment Centers, Narc-anon and other support systems to withdraw from this as a lifestyle or a spiritual lifestyle.
◊ (1808) BELLEROPHON
Overreaching, fatalities, disrespecting or hurting women, being disabled or ‘crippled’ in some way. He was a hero who was then exiled for the murder of a family member and journeyed to the court of King Proitos (Proetus) in Argos for purification. The queen, however, developed a lust for the hero and when he spurned her, she told her husband he had tried to violate her. Bellerophontes also killed the Divine fire-breathing Khimaira (Chimera) and turned against the Goddess in doing so which is lifetimes of punishment of problems with women. Throat issues are a common theme of sickness, hearing issues and the destruction of the third eye.
◊ (28) BELLONA
Goddess of War Bellona is an ancient Roman goddess of war, strife and conflict. She often holds a sword, spear, or shield, and brandishes a torch as she rides into battle in a four-horse chariot. When the Amazons were destroyed, they kept their spirit alive in the statues of these types of Goddesses but only if they served the Patriarch. Her iconography was extended further by painters and sculptors following the Renaissance.
She is the original punishes for crimes of society and assertively seeks power. Bellona strongly placed in charts can be extremely confrontational or willing to fight and that is its only struggle which is not negative but challenging.
Originally named Duellona in the Italic languages she probably is from the older cultures of the Ionians and Dorian cultures of Pagans. Her first temple in Rome was dedicated in 296 BCE, where her festival is celebrated on 3 June. Her priestesses and Priests were known as Bellonarii and used to wound their own arms or legs as a blood sacrifice to her.
These rites took place on the 24th March or the Spring Equinox. It was called the day of blood (dies sanguinis), after the ceremony. As an asteroid, it is where one harms the self of cutters or self torture and turns the warrior sides against the self instead of others. This is where therapy to get into past life issues or inner child issues, begins to help one express their anger in appropriate ways to heal self destruction.
◊ (114) CASSANDRA (Kassandra)
Daughter or Princess of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy, attendant in the temple of Apollo who temped her with the gift of prophecy, but when Cassandra refuse he spat in her mouth and cursed her to speak truth but no one would ever believe her. Kassandra warned her countrymen not to accept the gift of the Trojan Horse, but by this time had acquired a reputation for insanity, and her warnings were disregarded. After the sack of Troy, Kassandra was brought home as a prize of war and concubine for the Greek king Agamemnon of Mycenae.
In his absence, Agamemnon’s wife Clytemnestra, enraged by the sacrifice of their daughter Iphigenia to ensure the success of the war, had begun an affair with Aegisthus, a cousin of the king. Together the two plotted the death killing him and Cassandra at his side.
The metaphor of the ‘Cassandra Complex’ has been applied in a variety of contexts such as psychology, environmentalism, philosophy, and has been in circulation since at least 1949 when French philosopher Gaston Bachelard coined the term ‘Cassandra Complex’ to refer to a belief that things could be known in advance. The asteroid represents disbelief, misuses of men’s power (Apollo), unwanted advances by the opposite sex, disrespectful communication, false judgments. Family issues of deceit.
◊ (21454) CHERNOBY (Chernobog)
In Slavic mythology, Chernobog is a shadow god, an accursed god who causes calamity and disaster, bringing bad luck and misfortune Goddesses and Gods of destruction are for purification when humans have reached their last chance. I used this particular asteroid because its close to the god’s name. There is no hidden agenda in the eternal conflict.
He is malevolent and among West Slavic tribes but he wasn’t considered a very important or very old deity. His harmony aspect is the god Belobog. We can give attributes to the destruction of Chernobyl, the Nuclear Plant disaster as a realm of the god Chernobog, an impending fated doom, who drives mortals to their deathly and severe suffering. Or when men try to play god, he destroys their creations that are the most deadly.
Like the Greek Moros, those who have been murdered or those who are real shamans in the deathly and wrathful deaths, Chernobog represents physical aspects of death, violent death and terminal suffering. “Tchernabog” the black god of Ukrainian folklore like Chernobog does not set their victim free, even after death. A veneration of this deity survived in folklore of several Slavic nations. In some South Slavic vernaculars, there exists the phrase do zla boga (meaning “to [the] evil god”, or “to [the] evil [of] god”), used as an attribute to express something which is exceedingly negative. The asteroid then covers areas of shadow powers, control issues, death, violence, disasters, personal disasters, horrible diseases, mental illness, soul bondage, karma.
◊ (623) CHIMERA
Mount Chimaera is a geothermically active volcanic mountain in the ancient Anatolian region of Lycia (in modern day Turkey) which inspired Greek legend of the monstrous Chimera. Ancient storytellers said Chimera is a celestial female fire-breathing lioness with a snake for a tail (but later Dionysus goat head was added to the back).
The Chimera was slain by Bellerophon, riding Pegasus as a conquest and demise of the powers of celestials, woman and nature. The asteroid is for spiritual women who are held back and put in their place by spiritual leaders who are men. It also represents those who do not believe men and women’s mystical experiences by normal people and are cast out as daydreams, imaginative and fantastic visions (but not real). Creative solutions to train the mind to let go of judgments, using one’s inner volcanic fire appropriately and only when its called for.
◊ (19521) CHAOS
Chaos is the Greek personification of the void and change from which all was born, known as the Goddess Nyx, then chaos was born. Chaos is the name given to a TNO (Trans Neptunian Object) in the Kuiper Belt region of the solar system, near Pluto. Symbolically applied to the asteroid Chaos represents uncontrolled circumstances, pain from disorder, anarchy, disorder, turmoil and upheaval which leads to argumentative and combative lives.
This is the misuses of Charisma, Sexual Charisma and Charming, Negative Spells, and the Dark Magician, Musician or Sorcerer who uses their sexuality to satisfy their own sexual addictions. On its darkest sides its the issues of power and control over other people, especially women and especially innocent or young women. The asteroid of the smooth communicator with all the answers, that others fall for because they have addictions to love, are being tricked by the beauty and charms of Venus or Mars. Casanovas can be male or female and they know exactly what to say to get even the most aware or innocent person to fall in love with them.
Its a gift and a curse to have such powers over people and I have seen many in positions of leadership in spiritual circles. The victim perpetrator archetype is very powerful in this asteroid and those who fear boundaries will always attract these types or those who are in love with love but not its real responsibilities of what needs to occur in being more discerning. The shadow sides are the misuses of sex as the master demon humans of seduction, the spiritual leader who sleeps with any of the women in his circle (transference issues).
◊ (2060) CHIRON
Chiron has two rulerships: 1. The wounded healer: where you heal the self is where you are the greatest at healing and 2. It is where your karma exists and what you did. Chiron was the first centaur discovered and equally the most well-known of the mythical centaurs; arguably Chiron is the most important of all the centaurs. He was the son of Saturn and a sea-nymph. Early on, he is abandoned by his mother (his first ‘wounding’), who is horrified at his half-man, half-human form; he is soon taken to the Sun god Apollo, who teaches Chiron everything he knows about the healing arts. Chiron is later wounded by an arrow from Hercules. The wound never heals despite his healing knowledge, which explains Chiron’s well-known nickname as the “Wounded Healer”. Chiron is about learning through suffering, compassion for others’ suffering, exile, healing, transformation.
Those who misuse power and must pay their debt with losses when it means the most. With great power comes great responsibility. Damocles is power and not many know how to be powerful without acruing more karma, which generals, bankers and top executives or ceo’s do.
◊ (157) DEJANAIRA
Deianira, Deïanira, Deianeira was a Calydonian Princess Member of the Royal House of Calydon Deianera. In Greek mythology her name translates as “man-destroyer” or “destroyer of her husband” and refers to two separate characters in Greek mythology. The better-known Deianira was a wife of Heracles and, in late Classical accounts, his unwitting murder, killing him with the poisoned Shirt of Nessus is one example. She is the main character in Sophocles’ play Women of Trachis. The less well-known Deianira was an Amazon, killed by Heracles during his quest for the girdle of Hippolyta.
This asteroid is about abuse, violation of physical and personal boundaries and sexual abuse of women or men when they were young. Asteroid Dejanaira is an indicator of childhood abuse and sexual abuse, this lifetime or past lives that can lead to being abused as adults, or even becoming the abuser. At extreme cases its murder, in other cases its emotional, mental or psychological torture that is not obvious because its subtle, but ends up being destructive in partnerships.
◊ (1277) DOLORES
Dolores is an ancient goddess who is a mystery and was pushed out long ago, what remains is hardly anything and that tells me she was a very powerful Goddess represenation of woman. She is closely linked to the Artemis archetype and Dolores is also the Island of Delos in Greece. The myths vary, but generally Artemis is the Huntress who delights in the wild beauty of her natural world but also as a huntress must master the warrior within, which leads to many, many tests of pain. The Spanish meaning of Dolores refers to the Virgin Mary of Sorrows.
◊ (60) ECHO
In Greek mythology, Echo is an Oread who resided on Mount Cithaeron. Zeus consorted with beautiful nymphs and often visited them on Earth. Eventually, Zeus’s wife, Hera, became angry and wanted to catch Zeus with the nymphs. Echo, by trying to protect Zeus endured Hera’s wrath, and Hera made her only able to speak the last words spoken to her. This is the archetype of the Mistress who doesn’t understand the adult woman’s responsibility to her family and the man who cheats of his wife. When Echo met Narcissus and fell in love with him, she is unable to tell him how she felt and was forced to watch him as he fell in love with himself. Echo individuals have unrequited love and need a lot of self healing before they return to relationships and dating, they have low self esteem or self-worth the requires therapy to begin to heal inner child issues.
◊ (60) ELPIS
The Goddess Elpis is a personified Spirit (daimona) of hope and hanging on to life. She and the other daimones were trapped in a jar by the evil Zeus and entrusted to the care of the first woman he created: Pandora. When she opened the vessel all of the spirits escaped except for Elpis (Hope) who remained behind to comfort women and all their problems because of man.
◊ (136199) ERIS
Goddess of both Strife and Discord, a warrior goddess and sister to Mars. Some think that Discord cannot be avoided, arguing that equality and fairness have no existence beyond the name. Accordingly, they do not hesitate, when they deem it necessary in order to achieve the attractive aims that Eris whispers in their ears, to plunge family, friends and country into darkness in order to win, through debauched contention. “Discord is the last of the gods to close an argument.”
Asteroid meanings are competitiveness, winning without moral responsibilities, women who are judged for being strong, argumentative, inner chaos, power, strength that leads to downfall. In Hesiod’s Theogony, Strife, the daughter of Night, is less kindly spoken of as she brings forth other personifications as her children bore painfully:
Strife (Eris’ Son)
In mythology, this level of Strife meant the hardships on women in a changing society from the Goddess culture to the dominant male ruled Patriarch, created all the evils in the world and were projected and blamed on women and then written as such in Greek mythology. The destruction of woman and all the attributes she had to bare that were created by the consumption of life of the rising patriarchal religion, government and military dominated everything of a woman’s life and her within society. Eris stands for the warrior who faught back, but in the end lost herself, her good qualities and began her great fall from injustice.
◊ (288) GLAUKE
In Greek mythology, Kreusa (or Creusa), which simply means “Princess”, was the name of several distinct characters in mythology. One Creusa (also known as Glauce) was the daughter of King Creon of Corinth. She was engaged to marry Jason, the hero of the Golden Fleece cycle. Their marriage was meant to cement a political alliance. When the sorceress Medea, Jason’s wife, lover and husband of their children, learned that he was marrying someone else she sent a cursed dress to Creusa as a wedding present. When Creusa put on the insidious garment it burnt her alive.
Another Creusa was the daughter of King Priam of Troy. She was the wife of Aeneas, the protagonist of Virgil’s Aeneid. Virgil describes how Creusa tried to escape the burning city, yet was killed by the marauding Greeks. Her husband escaped Troy and became instrumental in the founding of Rome.
Another Creusa was the daughter of King Erechtheus of Athens and his wife Praxithea. Still another was the mother of Hypseus, King of the Lapiths. This asteroid may give an inherited position of high social rank. The concept of royalty may play a role in life.
Glauke is related to the Greek glaucus or glaux, meaning “Owl”. The asteroid gives a tendency towards triangles in love affairs, misuses of relationships to get ahead in life, and the unwittingly envy and jealousy of others that ends in destroying peoples lives. Fire present a change but also a danger. The Owl part of Glauke is a totem of personal importance as signs of warning for the initiate.
◊ (6) HEBE
Hebe is the Maiden Greek Goddess of youth (Roman equivalent: Juventas). She is the daughter of Zeus and Hera and cup bearer for the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus, serving their nectar and ambrosia, until she was married to Heracles. Her brother is Ares and her sister is Eris and Hebe has the powers of eternal youth. In art she is typically seen with her father in the guise of an eagle, often offering a cup to him.
This is a symbolic image of older men or fathers, living off the life force and powers of their maiden daughters or young maidens in general. It is also the archetype of the perfect father that no man can live up to the Hebe type of woman, as she is never quite satisfied in her life with her partner, regardless of how strong or secure. It also represents parents who cheat and have rage against each other, wounding the sensitive parts of the inner child. This can turn into the wife who is blind to her husbands demands as he never lives up to them himself but expects a lot of perfection from her.
◊ (108) HECUBA
In Greek mythology, Hecuba was the Queen of Troy at the time of the Trojan War. She was the daughter of the Phrygian King Dymas. She was married to King Priam of Troy and had 11 children with him, including Hector. Hector was the greatest among the Trojan warriors. This asteroid brings the family into tragedy and defeat and the collapse of the wife as head of the household. Collapse, shame, rejection from society, glory and then failure and loss. Monetary and social standing losses.
◊ (430) HYBRIS
She is the goddess or personified Spirit (daimona) of insolence, hubris, violence, reckless pride, arrogance and outrageous behavior in general. Her Roman name is Petulantia. Any behaviors that challenge the “gods” of your life (parents, partners, bosses) and requires the rebellious teen within, as an adult to return back to youth to reclaim what you lost that was precious. Sometimes this stems from abuse and sexual abuse.
◊ (1566) ICARUS
In Greek mythology, Icarus is the son of Daedalus, King Minos’ architect, who built the labyrinth for King Minos to imprison the Minotaur. In reality, the father and son were Minos’ prisoners, imprisoned in a tower. The clever Daedalus plucked feathers from the birds that landed at the window and, over time, gathered enough to build two pairs of wings for himself and his son, Icarus. The two escaped, but Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun. The prideful Icarus didn’t listen. He flew so high, the heat of the sun melted the wax in his wings, and he plunged to his death into the ocean. The loss troubled Daedalus so much that he refused to share the plans for his wings until his death.
◊ (3811) KARMA
Karma is everything, it is the very root of our accumulated shadow of our soul, all the soul’s fragmentations in ghostly and astral forms. It rules our soul sicknesses and our suffering of any kind. The asteroid Karma is where we have gone too far, too far in our past lives into killing, too far into addictions, too far into hurting others or the self. Karma is where your debts must be paid and the reaper is the collector and death is the dreamer, who opens up your fate when that dept is due.
◊ (388) KHARYBDIS (Charybdis)
She is a Celestial Sea Spirit (or monster) whose gigantic whirlpool swirled in the straits of Messina opposite the cliffs of the monster Skylla (Scylla). She is the daimon of the tides with her thrice daily sucking up and expulsion of the waters. Mentioned by Homer as the cause of the three high and low tides of the day.
The ancient Greek scholia on Homer’s Odyssey give several different accounts of the origin of Kharybdis. In one she was a daughter of Pontos (Sea) and Gaia (Earth) who laid siege to the land with her waves.Zeus, in anger of her power stronger than his, captured and chained her to the sea-bed.In another tale, she was a voracious women who challenged Herakles. For this reason Zeus cast her into the Sea with the blow of his thunderbolt.
The Greeks had a verb ekcha rubdizô which meant to swallow like Kharybdis. According to Hesykhios, this verb was invented by Pherekydes to describe those who were glutinous or on the other side, women who would not be taken down and destroyed by the patriarch and men.Kharybdis was perhaps identical to Keto Trienos “the Sea-Monster Thrice” who was the mother of Skylla and grandmother of the Sicilian giant Polyphemos.
Jealousy or people jealous of you, especially acts driven by jealousy that end poorly, tattle-tale, a gossip and closure or letting go of a relationship because the jealousy is not healed. Desperate, senseless romances, being in love but being ignored and rejected. Klytia is in love with Apollo (the previous Helios, the Sun God), but he had another lover. Dejected, Klytia told Apollo’s potential father-in-law, who killed his own daughter as a punishment for her actions.
With Apollo’s love gone, Klytia hope’s to be snatched up by her paramour didn’t happen, he once again ignores her, and she withers away on a rock, staring at him until she dies. As an asteroid this is the placement where rejection is at its worse when it comes to love and relationships. Its also the place to heal and become whole again. All of our life’s struggles are from our soul and its karma and it bleeds into our lifetime at certain points so we can do the healing work.
◊ (84) KLIO
Asteroid Klio is commonly associated with history, storytelling, and writing, so is not a ‘bad’ asteroid per se. However, when asteroid Klio is poorly aspected in the chart, there can be an attachment to ‘history’ or to the story that keeps running in one’s mind, which leads to a type of neuroses about the events, persons or situations that cannot be “let go”.
◊ (248) LAMEIA
Grief at losing something most precious, a child, loss of a limb and its trauma, intense jealousy that lasts decades. The show or demonic sides of the ‘vampires’ (Lameia sucks the ‘lifeblood’ of men or women. Lameia had affairs with Zeus and had many children with him. Hera killed all of her children as a punishment. She became overcome with grief, unable to sleep because of her own shadows.
◊ (26955) LIE
Lies, liars, lying. This is the trickster who has no mirrors of morality or finds great fear of their truth. When dealing with courts, judges, business transactions and mergers, this would be a negative aspect.
◊ (208) LACRIMOSA
“Weeping”, tears, grief, sadness. Associated in the chart with depression or grief that doesn’t end. I would suggest the person who struggles with this asteroid that is prominantly place, give up all pot, alcohol, drugs and medications to begin the long journey to the root of the depression and sadness and find some balance or coming to terms with it. Many times karma of despression is a thirty year journey, but only if its karma, for others it will be much shorter of a period. But chronic illnesses are always our own past karma and how we burn it off.
◊ (4386) LUST
Lust is an actual shadow addiction side of sex and our sexual nature and it is dark because the driving force is the shadow or demonic astral body that was fragmented from the persons previous life and that show roams in the energetic or dream fields around them and those they are sexually needing instant gratification. This can be in dating, a marriage, a divorce that has no closure etc. The asteroid and archetype can go from light to severe, in the ways of the sex addict, rape, friendly rape that is masked by the trickster, drug rape and arenas of both spiritual sex and committed relationship sex.
Its a driving force of energy of the personal addict and his or her’s demon or dark shadow that needs to get satisfaction over and over without regards to the other person, partners or multiple partnerships. Usually lust is combined with a drug, pot, shamanic plant addiction and then the person checks out to not even be clear enough to recognize that this addiction has gotten out of hand. Lust is an energy of sexual abuse as children (unless its drug abuse driven) and will be present in adults until they get sober or begin to work with therapy of abusive woundedness in their childhood or teenage years and even their twenties. I have worked with quite a few people who fall under the Lust archetype, some have success if they go sober and some do not.
◊ (897) LYSISTRATA
Lysistrata is the archetype of the heroine of an infamous Greek comedy of the same name. The women of Greece, led by Lysistrata, led a protest of sexual abstinence against all men until they stopped the perpetual wars. When badly afflicted, Lysistrata can talk about someone that uses sex as a tool of manipulation or power.
The Dark Moon Goddess of retribution and punishment for doing evil, are called many names, some of them are the Libyan Medusa or Semitic Lilith who were once powerful and just Goddesses, but both turned into monsters by Classical Greek and Hebrew mythology, respectively. Pre-monster Medusa, like all wise Grandmother power, is the power of Death, Transformation and Rebirth. The final judge over life and death of those who go against nature.
In Greek mythology she represents Athena’s warrior side of the Maiden. As an asteroid, she is where we suffer from our karma or attacked by powerful men. She is one of the oldest archaic parts of our self. As an asteroid, she rules our karma and shadow, that repressed shadow Self that we are so unaware of, but all our struggles (its mirrors) are all right before us. Medusa is a Serpent Goddess who with her Shamanic snake-faced Gorgon Mask represents the life energy of regeneration and transformation.
She along with Hekate is Queen of the Women who never forgot their power and even died for it, such as the witches. Medusa is death itself and in our living life she is transformation of struggle. She is the part of us that we must face our own “cold” truth when we strip away the false façade. This is the archetype of secrets, suppressed shadow and taboos. Medusa is the not-so-very-nice side of ourselves and can bring violence into our personal space. She can erupt violently to destroy or construct walls and purge our denied truths, so we are reborn. She is the grandmother stages of power.
◊ (212) MEDEA
Medea was a very complicated, revengeful and self absorbed enchantress who fell in love with Jason, leader of the Argonauts, to obtain the Golden Fleece from her father, King Aeëtes of Colchis. She was of divine descent and had the gift of prophecy. She married Jason and used her magic powers and advice to help him and get the fleece.
As an asteroid its a fullness of a life, she heals, she kills, she is betrayed, she betrays. Family issues are around betraying the father for the lover-husband and then the lover husband betraying her. Conspiring, Revenge, Abandonment, Betrayal, the heavy forces of life and its shadows. Using magick in a negative way for self satisfaction and the karmic restitution.

Melete is connected to the Greek word for anxiety, and as such, can indicate anxiety disorders, panic attacks and other forms of mental anguish.

She is one of the nine Muses and the Muse of Tragedy, through her music, song and dance. In this guise she was portrayed holding a tragic mask and club or sword, and sometimes wearing a wreath of ivy and cothurnus boots. Her name was derived from the Greek verb melpô or melpomai meaning “to celebrate with dance and song.”
This asteroid point to the area in which you are to heal your grief, loss and mourning by finding joy through dance and song to heal your soul. Next to any of the love asteroids (Amor, Eros, Psyche) this can make for disastrous or painful love affairs, and can even indicate death or loss of a partner.

◊ (60) MOROS and (7724) MOROSO
In Greek mythology, Moros, Morus is the being of impending fated doom, who drives mortals to their deadly or severe suffering path, such as those who have been murdered or those who are real shamans and are deathly and wrathfully torn apart and die a few times and return with their real medicines and wisdom over decades. Its pretty much the worst and deadliest asteroid there is. Moros is the offspring of Nyx, the primordial goddess of the nothingness creation, the Night and therefore the brother of the Moirai, or the Fates, who control destiny.
Moros represents the physical aspects of death, violent death and terminal sickness, while Thanatos represented a peaceful passing away and rebirths. Moros in mythology, in Prometheus Bound, the Titan myth, suggests that he gave humanity the Spirit of Elpis (see above this asteroid), in order to help them ignore the inevitability of Moros. He is also referred to as “the all-destructive” and even in the realms of Death, does not set his victim free” and even if they overcome death, the representative of the inevitability of death and suffering still go on. The Moire are the equals of Moros and Moroso.
◊ (638) MOIRA
Moira are the only ones worse than Moros, if that is even possible. The three are derived from the Greek word ‘the fates’. Moira’s location by sign and house can indicate an area of life that is governed by fate and destiny ruled by karma and what makes it worse is that you have no say so, no control and no power to change it. One must walk through the fire to complete the tasks and often suffering is the lifetime and affliction. Moira shows where your debt is from ‘negative’ karma of one’s fated life. Moira, Marzanna, Morena are all the names of this Dark Goddess who chooses women as initiates to make them powerful but first they must be completely destroyed.
Shaman women or medicine women can often have a strong asteroid in a position of the nodes or in the karmic houses of the 12th and the 6th, the 8th or on Saturn, Moon or Uranus. Much in life must be given up, like personal love, a home of one’s own, all the Venus qualities that women seek and even the loss of her children. She rules the sisterhood and this can be quite painful for maidens and younger women who have the fairytale dreams, but as the woman gains control in her adulthood by such fate, her purpose begins to be reveals as the pain has brought her wisdom. Still there is much sorrow on the quest of the spiritual warrioress or spiritual hermitess.
◊ (120) LACHESIS one of the Moira
Lachesis is one of the Three Fates, the sister who determines the destinies of all. Lachesis, known as “the Allotter”, determined the span of a life, as represented by the thread woven by her sister Klotho, and instructed Atropos when to cut that thread with her shears. Within three days of a child’s birth, Lachesis and her sisters decide their destiny, Symbolically it rules the places in which we do not control, control issues, fear of letting go and trusting. The meaning of death and termination.
◊ (273) ATROPOS, one of the Moira
Asteroid Atropos is one of the “Moira” fates (in addition to Klotho & Lachesis). Atropos as a theme has a relationship to bring endings of all kinds: relationships, business, death, accidents, and illness. Learning to let go is one of the greatest healing if Atropos is conjunct your sun or moon. See the Moira.
◊ (381) MYRRHA
Myrrh, Myrrha, Smyrna is a desert tree native to Arabia and the horn of Africa. Its valuable, aromatic gum resin was harvested and burnt as an incense in ancient religious shrines. Sacred to Aphrodite (festal myrrh incense). Smyrna (or Myrrha) was a Cyprian, Lebanese or Assyrian princess whose mother dared to compare her in beauty to the goddess Aphrodite. This offended Aphrodite causing the girl to fall in love with her own father as punishment. When the King discovered his daughter had seduced him in disguise, he pursued her with an axe, but the goddess mercifully intervened by transforming Smyrna into a Myrrh tree.
This asteroid can indicate early issues between mothers and daughters that plays out later in the daughters life. On the darker side it can show were incest, sexual abuse. It also exposes sexual relationships of older men or women with much younger people, also transgender issues, confusion about one’s sexual orientation and the issues of karma of previous past lives that went against ‘natural law’ (bestiality, incest, etc).
◊ (258) NESSUS
Astrologically, Nessus has issues to do men’s issues with porn, rape, sexual issues of power, misogyny, men behaving badly all the way to demonic. Family sexual abuses from generation to generation. Resentments, revenge and abuses of trust.
◊ (37117) NARCISSUS
Narcissus loved himself so much that he became transfixed with his own image and committed suicide when he could not have the object of his desires. Self importance, self loathing, selfishness, self involved or self concerned with no one, but the self. Narcissism is a disease, sometimes mental and sometimes emotional, its the root where the individual falls into the inability to see outside of his or her own needs at the cost of causing pain to those he or she loves. Astrologically it shows where the inability to see others’ point of views, heir needs, excessive pride in one’s appearance, rejection of others’ love.
◊ (71) NIOBE

Apollon and Artemis, her divine children, rushed to their mother’s defense, descended upon Thebes and struck down the 14 children with their arrows. Some say, Artemis was merciful, and spared the youngest daughter.
This asteroid rules grief, sorrow and loss within the family in regards to being a parent or the child. Astrologically, Niobe also represents undue pride and the fall from grace which often accompanies this. It can indicate issues with one’s own children or problems with your childhood. Personal self-importance, arrogance or conceit has been established from great pains as a child. Often humbling experiences will accrue, granting enhanced perspective or teaching important lessons in life.
◊ (128) NEMESIS
In ancient Greek religion, Nemesis is also called Rhamnousia or Rhamnusia (“the goddess of Rhamnous”) who enacted retribution and revenge against those who succumb to hubris (arrogance before the gods). Another name was Adrasteia or Adrestia, meaning “the inescapable”. Nemesis is the asteroid archetype of the enemy and the open enemy, downfall and revenge. Its also the wrath of religious judgment of religious peoples dark sides.
The Open Enemy are people who are false faced friendly but do not have your back or concerned about you well being in general and actually turn against you when you are not around. This is where doubt settles in, in friendships, marriages, co-worker relationships. So doubt and self doubt is also part of this asteroid. Wherever Nemesis is in your chart (if it touches an inner planet), then there are things you can do to learn how to trust again and how to heal your issue with the Nemesis types of people in your life.
◊ (2150) NYCTIMENE
Nyctimene is a particularly painful asteroid, she is the daughter of a prominent man, who is seduced by her father. She hides away in the forest out of shame and is turned into an owl by Athena. Nyctimene in a birth chart closely aspecting the Luminaries or other important planets can show shame issues, incest, rape, and abuse by the father or father figure. Father daughter issues in this life and past life issues that can play out with the lover or spouse.
◊ (171) OPHELIA
Astrologically, Ophelia represents drama on the lighter side, as she can indicate high and low emotions and or hysterics, over-reacting, things not in perspective, and feelings of doubt, insecurity, or lack of self-worth. In more extreme cases, it rules insanity and death by drowning, which can be rendered metaphysically as a feeling of being “inundated” or overwhelmed by circumstance.
◊ (55) PANDORA
Pandora is both an asteroid as well as a Moon to Saturn. Pandora was the original woman, fashioned out of water and earth, and of course, everything wrong with humanity is her fault and blamed on Pandora. As an asteroid she falls under karma, being blamed, consequences, rebelliousness, troublemaker.
◊ (399) PERSEPHONE and (26) PROSERPINA
Persephone (Proserpina) is the initiation of a woman who must lose something and experience pain in order to gain insight and wisdom later on in life. Persephone is well-known for her beauty but constantly refused her marriage proposals to stay as a companion to her family and her mother. One day Persephone is out picking flowers when the God of the Underworld Pluto (aka Hades) kidnaps her; he makes her the Queen of the Underworld.
This is also similar to Dionysus and his cult who persuaded young maidens to leave the sacred temples of the grandmothers and adult women and lure them with alcohol, sex and drugs. Confused and then rebellious, he finally broke the most ancient unbreakable sacred mysteries of women. Persephone falls under the same rape. Issues caused within this asteroid are loss of a parent too young or separation, food addictions such as anorexia, relationships with partners that are dark or evil.
◊ (3200) PHAETHON
Phaethon is generally associated with out of control, dangerous behavior, people that get carried away, car crashes and accidents. Phaethon is the son of the Sun God, Helios. He asked his father if he could drive the chariot of the sun – but when he took the reins things span out of control rather quickly. The Sun chariot ended up scorching Africa, accounting for its desert areas; eventually, Zeus struck him off the chariot to save the world and Phaethon. This in basic terms can be a power struggle in a son and father or authority type of figurehead and the battles that ensue because of it, even if they are not really that real.
In my own son’s life, he was always angry at me or playing trickster with all his Sag energy, he didn’t trust or believe me, as we had three difficult lifetimes together with difficult issues presenting themselves again this lifetime. Phaethon in his chart sits at 22 degrees Pisces, which my Pisces Moon in the forth house of home and family, is at 23 degrees. On the positive side, it helped me believe as a mother in my own groundedness and common sense, my stability and hard work, which he constantly denied existed. So for him he used Phaethon as an escape to his own dangerous behavior and projected it onto me emotionally (moon). When you read these asteroids, try to think of your most difficult relationship and your part in them and your most difficult aspect of relationships. That will help you get a better look at yourself and others.
◊ (6157) PREY
Prey can be a simple or extreme fear and where it shows up in your astrology chart, is where you can begin to heal where you have been a victim this lifetime. Sometimes because of our karma, we have to accept our fears of change around things that frighten us, and sometimes we have to live the duration of the fear as a karmic dept until the time has ended and then we can begin to heal. Prey is the victim perpetrator archetype and we have a few of those here on this list. The asteroid is where you prey upon others or things in life and where you are preyed upon from simple to severe and sometimes even death if things like Sado is in a bad position with a Prey asteroid.
◊ (118230) SADO
Sado is part of the sado-masacist, who enjoys giving pain to others, and a masochist is one who seeks the pain (usually unconsciousl). If Sado is opposite Saturn, Mars or the Moon, it can show sadistic family abuses towards the children, and when the child is grown they either never feel safe, or can repeat self inflicting pain onto themselves or hurting others. It can also be as simple as a basic Scorpio trait of an intense massage where the pain gives some release, outside the context of good and evil.
We learn by our caregivers and parents at our earliest stages in life which is generally unfortunate they that are going through their midlife crisis, when we are between ten and twenty and dealing with some intense issues of their own. Some children grow up with the same behaviors and cannot break these cycles while others take the punishment of life and fate, find themselves and begin to heal. Either way its a very difficult Asteroid to work with in our chart or a clients chart.
Asteroid Sado has nothing to do with being a pessimist or negative when trying to describe your life of woundedness. When we become adults and enter a sadist relationship that’s unconscious, even on both sides, its going to be a painful one and its more painful when we expect it to be love, trust and respect. This asteroid has led to mental illness, depression, suicide and emotional or soul sicknesses in people who have it or is effected by it because its Sadism.
Even the culture has allowed sadists to rule the movie industry, music and its demonic effects of corruption that violence is acceptable and not something shared in order to heal. Is the person who has it all bad? No, everyone has their positive and negative sides from simple to extreme, its how we work with this, that makes all the difference once we recognize the sickness and put our lives into action to heal and have appropriate boundaries. This asteroid rules the Victim/Perpetrator archetype. All serial killers have been Virgo, Pisces, Gemini or Sagittarius and that is a fact hard to accept, but the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th houses are two way doors and one can get lost both in their past life karma and their incarnated life, and that is where Schizophrenia and Sadists live (in both worlds).
◊ (562) SALOME
To understand the archetypal stories and how our lives fit, is one of the stories of Salome who was the daughter of Queen Herodias and stepdaughter of King Herod Antipas, ruler of Galilee in Palestine. Her infamous history comes from causing St. John the Baptist’s execution. Saint John condemned the marriage of Herodias and Herod Antipas, Queen Herodias was the divorced wife of Antipas’s half brother Philip therefore this was incestuous. This is when Religious men began to meddle in Pagan and Goddess affairs and had no rights to do so.
King Herod imprisons John, but feared the after effect of having a well-known prophet killed. Queen Herodias, Salome’s mother was not appeased by simply the imprisonment of St. John so she pressures her daughter Salome to “seduce” her stepfather King Herod with a dance, making him promise to give her whatever she wished in return. At her mother’s command, Salome asks for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. After Salome’s “Dance of Seven veils”, King Herod did her bidding and Salome brought the head platter to her mother.
As an asteroid and on one side of Salome she is portrayed as the seductress and a femme fatale, a women who used her abilities natural sexuality to get what she wishes for but in her case, it was her Mothers wish not her. So its about being manipulated by family to go against your own soul and then having to live with that consequence. She also was demeaned by becoming a sexual object that was used by the family more specifically by her mother as a tool to grant her objectives.
These myths when transforming them into symbolism is about the corruption of a young maiden and her fertility rites which are shadowed by corrupt people. Ishtar just like Persephone enters the underworld and on her journey removes a layer of clothing or jewelry each time she passes through one of the seven gates into the underworld. This asteroid is about rights of passage that are necessary in life but we would never chose them, they are about the sexual powers of the feminine and their misuses but become a great learning as the woman matures. Another asteroid expression is being influenced by negative people into doing things you would have never done without them.
◊ (1866) SISYPHUS
In Greek mythology Sisyphus was King of Ephyra (now known as Corinth). He was punished for his self-aggrandizing craftiness and deceitfulness by being forced to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down when it nears the top, repeating this action for eternity. Through the classical influence on modern culture, tasks that are both laborious and futile are therefore described as Sisyphean.
In asteroid work, this is the character of the Heyoka, Coyote, Trickster, Magician and Sorcerer who do not do their own personal healing and shadow healing work and want only the power of magic without its personal, moral and emotional responsibilities. And because of this, he or she must suffer with…
Unending suffering and struggles and being forced to do the same thing over and over. Draining monotony or stuck in a vicious cycle of rebuilding or destruct. It is a karmic signature in the Astrological chart and when one learns to surrender to the pain and task one can slowly heal within the confines of the tasks at hand. Because Sisyphus was the son of King Aeolus of Thessaly and Enarete, and the father of Glaucus, Ornytion, Almus, and Thersander by the nymph Merope, the brother of Salmoneus, and the grandfather of Bellerophon through Glaucus it can also be said it means entitlement issues must be punished. Not even the rich or famous can avoid suffering if Sisyphus is present in their chart.
◊ (8690) SWINDLE
The Sphinx is a female Spirit, a mythical and celestial animism woman from prehistory ancient times. She has the body of a lioness, with a woman’s head and sometimes with wings. The celestial was an Egyptian symbol and ancient legend. She rules the secrets of our past and our past lives, both positive and negative. She holds our secrets, the unconscious or hidden aspects that are not revealed until we go through an initiation of suffering.
Then when we pass these tests, some mystical or mysteries are experienced in a deeper way. As an asteroid, it can be the secrets that save you will eventually destroy you, and as an example we have Bill Clinton who had the asteroid Sphinx conjunct the asteroid ‘Monica’ in which he had an affair at the white house. He both corrupted is own nature and his wife Hillary and it changed both their lives for the more negative aspects.
The Sphinx as an asteroid also represents the dark nature or evil sides of the Ancient Brotherhood of the Sphinx which is what they call the Illuminati today. A pure destruction of peoples souls as children through the rape and enslavement of children both in dreams and in society. The pre-patriarchal of these corruptions of demoting woman’s equality, women’s souls and grandmothers leadership that existed before men’s religions, kingdoms and war heroes had broken the mystery. The secret nature of our soul reveals all that we too were all a part of this destruction of the soul and the feminine and now we must heal to receive back our mystery through honoring women, the feminine and mother earth.
◊ (769) TATJANA
Tatjana (or Tatyana, Tatiana) was a Slavic woman who was in the Russian Orthodox Church and made a Saint. A Christian martyr of the 3rd Century. According to her legend, she was an deaconess of the Church. A Roman jurist named Ulpian attempted to force her to worship the god Apollo, Tatiana prayed to her god, who destroyed Apollo’s temple with an earthquake. Tatiana was then blinded and fed to hungry lions by the enraged Romans. In Russia, Belarus and Ukraine she is the saint of students. This asteroid emphasize the martyr, or martyr consciousness, the blinded who chooses to follow a path regardless of its consequences, the loss of eyesight (loss of the soul). It also includes shame of unrequited love, yet later become vindicated.
‘Tantalus’ is closely related to our modern word, ‘tantalize’. Themes here include: always out of reach, never getting what you want, testing others, taunting others, nearly having it, temptation without satisfaction. The myth of Tantalus is about the stolen ambrosia from Mount Olympus and taking it down to humans much like what Dionysus did and why he was hated. As punishment, he was kept in a pool of water with branches of fruit above him. Whenever he was thirsty and tried to drink the water, it would evade him; when he felt hungry and reached for a piece of fruit, the branches would lift out of reach.
